Means — Terms of Service
Last updated: July 27, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, accessing, or using Means ("the app", "we", "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. What Means Is
Means is a personal budgeting tool that helps you see what is safe to spend based on your income, bills, savings, and transactions. Means provides informational budgeting features only. It is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. You are responsible for your own financial decisions.
3. Your Account
- You may use Means anonymously with a device-based account, or create an account with an email and password.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use Means.
- You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app.
4. Bank Connections
Means uses Plaid to connect to your financial institutions on a read-only basis. Means can view your account balances and transactions to power its features, but Means cannot move money, make payments, or initiate transfers, and never sees your bank username or password. You may disconnect your bank at any time.
5. Subscriptions
Means offers optional paid subscriptions that unlock additional features. Current tiers and prices (United States; local prices may vary and are always shown in the store before you buy):
- Free: $0 — the core budgeting experience.
- Plus: $7.99/month or $59.99/year — automatic bank sync and a larger AI allowance.
- Pro: $14.99/month or $99.99/year — everything in Plus, with higher limits.
- Free trial: New subscribers get a 7-day free trial on Plus ($7.99/month or $59.99/year) and on Pro ($14.99/month or $99.99/year). If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the trial converts to a paid subscription and the store charges you for the plan you chose. You can cancel during the trial at no charge. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Auto-renewal: Subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store and renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Apple charges your payment method on renewal.
- How to cancel: Manage or cancel any time in Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. After you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds: Purchases are billed by Apple, and refunds are handled under Apple's refund policy. Request one through Apple's support channels — we cannot issue App Store refunds directly.
- Terms of Use (EULA): Subscriptions bought through the App Store are additionally governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. These Terms describe the Means service; that agreement governs your licence to the app itself.
- Price changes: If a price changes, we will let you know in advance through the app or the store, and the store will ask for your consent where required. You can cancel before the new price takes effect.
- If you cancel: Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked away — you keep the app, your history, and every figure in it. Banks you have already connected keep refreshing, so your existing accounts are never stranded by a lapsed subscription. What a paid plan buys you is the ability to connect banks: on the free tier you cannot add a new bank connection, and the higher AI allowance ends. Your data stays yours on any tier, and you can export or delete it at any time.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the app, including attempting to access other users' data, reverse-engineer or disrupt the service, or use it for any unlawful purpose.
7. Accuracy and Availability
We work to keep Means accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that the information shown is error-free, complete, or continuously available. Spendable amounts are estimates based on the information you and your connected accounts provide.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
Means is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Means and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any financial decisions you make based on the app.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
